Appearance.2da Help

Well I belive I already know the answer but I figured I would ask some of the more experianced modders. My question: Is it possible to add a new line to the apperance.2da file and then select that line for an npc?

Ps. I already know you can add a new line so im more so asking if it's possible to select that new line for a npc.
